FROSTY MORNING!
I am totally convinced that Frosty the Snowman streaked through my neighborhood last night and left a bold fresh breath of winter. Actually, Bill said it was colder here in Lancaster, SC this morning than in Niagara Falls! He must have confused us with Lancaster, PA. You saw Frosty, too? Or, at least I hope you felt his - or her, ‘scuse me – presence and essence. (Between you and me, doesn’t this PC stuff just drive you mad?)
No kidding, though – this morning was the first time I had to go on a scavenger hunt in the wintry section of my closet and poke around for a warm bathrobe. And, of all things, to further delay warming up, I had not set the coffee up before heading to bed last night, so I had to then traipse through the house fumbling for the coffee, filter and cold water faucet. By Bon Qui Qui's standards, I definitely had a complicated order!
I have decided that no matter how pooped you might be in the evenings, you should always – always - take time to get that coffee set up and hit the right timing device on the coffee maker so that the coffee comes on in the a.m., not the p.m.! Actually, this function should be an Amendment on the ballot when we head to the polls soon. In my opinion, we should all vote YES! There’s nothing quite like that aroma wafting around in all the crevices of your house to wake you and get your body moving. (On a related note, Wal-Mart has not had MY GV Arabica coffee in stock for a couple of weeks! I will personally be addressing this issue soon. I am now forced to resort to Columbian or “pure” coffee, whatever that means! Maybe I need to leave well-enough alone.)
Back to getting the chill off the old body. There’s just nothing more accommodating than pulling out that favorite, trusted bathrobe for the first time each year; the one that has warmed your body and nurtured your soul for all these years. By most standards, mine should be resting in peace by now, but it’s so hard to let it go. The dryer filter still leaves me with a resemblance of better days. Shrouding one’s self in that reliable comfort is just about as good as it gets.
I hope you have a favorite, fuzzy, bathrobe, granny gown, or house coat, or what’s that other thing? Snuggy, maybe? Anything that brings warm and wonderful memories to you will warm you all over. My sister Bea still wears a robe that belonged to one of our sisters who passed away in 1993. It helps her relive and enjoy the sweetness of the lovely lady who first christened that robe.
Bring ‘em on, Frosty!
(Now, if I can just find my warm slipper socks I’ll be good to go. Hopefully, by now the coffee is in the pot and not running around on the counter, making sure to permeate every drawer and the floor, as well. Maybe I’ll even find that I have a package of 15-bean soup that isn’t too far from its “best by” date, and really, properly, initiate and welcome the coming of ole man winter!)
Doesn’t the changing of seasons remind you of the faithfulness of Our Lord?
Great is His Faithfulness!
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven — Ecc. 3:1
